our campaigns: Rooted in Faith, Sustainability, and Community
At SW1IC, our campaigns reflect our commitment to building a stronger, more sustainable community through mindful actions inspired by our faith and values. From the #WaterWise campaign, which blends environmental stewardship with the teachings of the Sunnah, to initiatives addressing food waste and surplus distribution, our goal is to inspire positive, lasting change. Through strategic partnerships and community-led efforts, we are tackling pressing issues like water conservation, food insecurity, and sustainability. These campaigns not only address immediate needs but also work towards creating a future where resources are valued, waste is minimised, and support is accessible to all.

A Campaign Rooted in Faith and Sustainability
Launched during Light The Nights, SW1IC’s 30-day Ramadan event, the #WaterWise campaign is a call to action for mindful water conservation. It aims to inspire sustainable behavioural change that is sensitive to London’s unique water challenges and deeply rooted in the teachings of the Sunnah, this initiative is a powerful blend of faith and environmental stewardship.
Throughout the month-long initiative, the campaign focused on reducing water waste during Taraweeh prayers. Attendees were encouraged to bring reusable bottles, finish what they start, and ensure that water giveaways reached those in genuine need. Volunteers supported this effort by marking bottles to ensure no water was left behind at the end of the night. The impact was evident within a week of the campaign’s launch. Event coordinators observed a significant reduction in wasted water, bringing a renewed sense of hope and demonstrating the power of collective action to drive positive change.

SW1IC plans to take #WaterWise beyond Ramadan, building on its success to address the broader issue of water sustainability in London. The capital faces specific challenges, including high per capita water consumption, ageing infrastructure leading to leaks, and increasing pressure on resources due to population growth and climate change. By grounding the campaign in the Sunnah’s principles of mindfulness, moderation, and gratitude, #WaterWise not only highlights these issues but also offers a faith-based framework for action.
This campaign aspires to spark a movement that encourages communities across London and the UK to adopt sustainable water practices, making every drop count for the future.

Advocating to End Food Waste and Alleviate Hardship
SW1IC is dedicated to supporting initiatives that tackle food waste and surplus food, while providing practical solutions to alleviate hardship. Through careful planning at coffee mornings and community trips, SW1IC ensures its events are not vehicles for waste but opportunities to promote mindful and sustainable practices.
This commitment was exemplified in a recent collaboration (Dec, 2024) with Mary Smith’s Pantry and Councillor Liza Begum. Together, they partnered on the Take and Make Winter Recipe Kits initiative, which distributed over 400 recipe boxes secured by Cllr Begum through the Mayor’s Fund for London. These kits empower South Westminster residents to transform surplus food into nutritious and delicious meals, addressing food waste while easing the pressures of the cost-of-living crisis.
SW1IC worked alongside Cllr Begum and Mary Smith’s Pantry to distribute the kits, demonstrating how collective action can make a meaningful difference. This partnership reflects SW1IC’s ongoing mission to reduce food waste, promote sustainability, and ensure that no one in the community goes without a hot meal or essential support.
Through initiatives like these, SW1IC continues to prove that small, well-planned actions can create lasting change. Together, they are building a future where food is valued, waste is minimised, and support reaches those who need it most.
